Early Learning Preschool 2025-2026

Early Learning Preschool Update

January 31, 2025

Due to recent changes to Alberta's child care subsidy program, our 2025-2026 division Early Learning Preschool (ELP) program fees are now under review. We recognize the importance of sharing this update as it directly impacts student registration for the 2025-2026 school year, which opens on Monday, February 3rd.

This fall, our division's Learning Services department opted to license programs to create more affordable childcare options for both current and future families. The decision was based on the subsidy model that was in place in Alberta at that time, which is now no longer available.

We want to reassure both current and prospective families that we are committed to fully understanding the implications of these changes. We will share further details as they become available.

Alberta Preschool Program Adjustments

The following adjustments will impact licensed preschool programs in Alberta:

  • Subsidies for children enrolled in licensed preschool programs will no longer be available.
  • Instead, these programs will offer a fee reduction of up to $100 off their stated monthly child care fees.

As a result, division leadership is in the process of reviewing the 2025-2026 ELP program fees and other program logistics.

As always, our goal is to make decisions that best support our school division families. We appreciate your patience as we carefully evaluate the provincial announcement and work to provide accurate and consistent information to staff and families.

2025-2026 Registration - secure your spot and receive updated information once available!

We encourage families to secure a spot in our Early Learning Preschool programs by completing the online registration form as scheduled. Forms for existing students have been reassigned and can be accessed in the PowerSchool Parent Portal under SchoolEngage, forms for new students are available online, here.

Please note: While the registration forms may contain information that no longer applies to the program, we recommend families select the option that suits them best for now. Be aware, however, that fees and days may change based on the recent provincial child care announcement.

  • Once program details for the 2025-2026 school year are finalized, a follow-up communication with an updated registration form will be sent to families who completed the initial registration.
  • Only families who submit the registration form will receive the follow-up communication, which will include updated information on program fees, dates of attendance, and other important details.
  • After receiving the updated information, you may choose to opt out of the ELP program for 2025-2026 if the new program details/updated fee structure no longer suits your family.
